Report on Serious Human Rights Abuses or Censorship in North Korea


In accordance with the North Korean Sanctions and Policy Enhancement Act of 2016, the U.S. Secretary of State must present a biannual report to Congress that identifies individuals and entities responsible for serious human rights abuses and/or censorship in the DPRK. I drafted the majority of this report, and conducted significant background research on North Korean entities responsible for restricting access to foreign media. The report was used as the designation by the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to sanction the individuals and entities listed in the report, as pursuant to Executive Order 13687
